HOPE rear hub Pro 5 E-Bike | Classic 6-hole 12x148 mm Boost thru axle freehub SRAM XD | E-Bike | black
The new Hope Pro 5 rear hub from the English cult manufacturer is the logical further development of the popular classic, the Hope Pro 4. 30 years of experience in the design and manufacture of high-quality drive elements have gone into the development of Hope's latest generation of hubs, with the aim of improving proven technology to meet the demands of current and future bicycle technology.
The first thing that catches the eye is the new profile of the hub shell. First of all, the Pro 5 differs visually from its predecessor model. The background to this is the use of larger bearings in conjunction with a more load-appropriate arrangement, as well as the parallel tapered axle design. This has made it possible to increase the stiffness of the hub without adding weight, which noticeably increases the load capacity. The highlight of the Hope 5 is a new 6-pawl freehub system in offset design, which provides a total of 108 engagement points. For the first time, you can choose between 6-bolt or Centerlock brake rotor mounting. The hubs are also available as a straight-pull version and in the current freehub standards. In addition to the technical innovations, the focus was particularly on the variety of applications for the hubs. This means that the hubs are ideally equipped for a change of installation standard. Replacing the freehub body and the axle adapter is child's play without the need for special tools, making the wheels particularly versatile. Everyone knows that the British don't have the best sunny weather, so the new hubs were put through their paces under the most adverse conditions. If a component does reach the wear limit, the Pro 5 can be completely dismantled and repaired using normal tools. In typical Hope design, the hubs are milled from a solid block of 2014 T6 aluminium and anodized in the usual colors.
6-pawl freehub system in offset design E-bike version
The 6-pawl freewheel system in the offset design of the E-Bike version is characterized by the fact that all six pawls are always engaged when riding in order to center the freewheel in the pawl and thus distribute the load evenly and meet the increased requirements and forces that occur on modern E-Bikes. In addition, the freehub teeth have been increased from 44 teeth (Pro 4) to 54 teeth, resulting in a total of 108 engagement points. In addition, material has been removed from the center of the pawl springs, which reduces the spring force and thus reduces air resistance. Hope has thus achieved the right balance between acceleration behavior and durability with the Pro 5.
Labyrinth seal
One of the most important goals of Hope's designers was to reduce friction in the drive mechanism. They achieved this with the help of the new, resistance-free labyrinth seal on the drive side. This is a non-contact shaft seal. In addition, friction in the drive mechanism was reduced by using the improved pawl system and springs. By reducing the friction in the drive system, the load capacity and thus the durability of the rear wheel hub has also been improved. The bearings on the non-drive side have an external seal.
