With the hybrid wheel sets, DT-Swiss brings the first wheel series onto the market that was specially developed for use on eMTBs. Not only the system weight of eMTBs is higher and leads to higher loads on the wheels, many trails and rough passages can also be ridden at significantly higher speeds. In addition, the electric drive creates higher drive torques that need to be brought to the ground and require stiffer wheels. The engineers at DT-Swiss have taken this requirement profile into account and optimized all components of their proven Spline wheel sets for use on eMTBs.
The HXC 1200 Spline wheelset represents the top among the DT-Swiss hybrid wheelsets. By installing ultra-stiff full carbon rims, the weight has been significantly reduced compared to the aluminum variants. With an internal width of 30 millimeters, the rim plus tires up to 3.5 inches provide good support, even at low air pressures. With a system weight of up to 120 kilograms (rider, clothing, bike), the HXC 1200 wheelset also offers enough reserves for heavy riders on rough trails.
The hybrid hubs have oversized housings, heavy-duty axles and extra reinforced spoke mounts. Oversized bearings and a steel freewheel body ensure high robustness and durability. The proven DT-Swiss toothed disc freewheel on the hybrid hubs is also made of hardened steel and has been expanded to 24 teeth for a more direct response. With these adjustments, the larger torques of e-bike drives can be absorbed by the hubs. The hybrid hubs only add very little weight compared to a standard MTB hub. The spline hub flanges for straight pull spokes also make the hubs an eye-catcher.
In order to be able to transfer the higher drive forces to the rims, DT-Swiss developed special oversized hybrid spokes. They consist of the same high-performance steel alloy as all proven DT Swiss spokes. However, the Straightpull hybrid spokes are equipped with reinforced and oversized spoke heads which, together with the DT Pro Lock Squorx nipples, ensure that every watt reaches the rim.
Due to the system-related higher total weight, the rims of e-bikes must be able to withstand significantly more than on conventional MTBs. At first glance, the hybrid rims do not differ from the standard DT-Swiss enduro rims. They have the same tubeless ready rim profile with load-optimized cross-sections. In the case of the hybrid rims, however, material thickness and strength have been increased at critical points in order to withstand the higher loads permanently.
