With the hybrid wheelsets, DT-Swiss launches the first series of wheels that has been specially developed for use with eMTBs. Not only the system weight of eMTBs is higher and leads to higher loads for the wheels, also many trails and rough passages can be driven at much higher speeds. In addition, due to the electric drive, higher drive torques that want to be brought to the ground and require stiffer wheels. DT-Swiss engineers have taken account of this requirement profile and optimized all components of their proven Spline wheelsets for use on eMTBs.
The HX 1501 Spline One wheelset is the lightest wheelset with aluminum rims among the DT-Swiss Hybrid wheelsets. In terms of durability and rigidity, however, no compromises were made. The low weight was achieved through the use of high quality aluminum alloys. With a release up to 150 kilograms system weight (driver, clothing, bike), the HX 1501 wheelset offers enough reserves on rough trails, even for strong riders.
The hybrid hubs have oversized housings, heavy duty axles and extra reinforced spoke mounts. Oversized bearings and a freewheel body made of steel ensure high robustness and durability. The tried-and-tested DT-Swiss toothed disc freewheel is also manufactured on the hybrid hubs made of hardened steel and has been extended to 24 teeth for a more direct response. These adjustments allow the larger torques of e-bike drives to be absorbed by the hubs. The hybrid hubs bring only a very small extra weight compared to a standard MTB hub on the scales. The spline hub flanges for Straigthpull spokes also make the hubs visually eye-catching.
In order to transfer the higher driving forces to the rims, DT-Swiss developed special oversized hybrid spokes. They consist of the same high-performance steel alloy as all proven DT-Swiss spokes. However, the Straightpull hybrid spokes are equipped with reinforced and oversized sprocket heads, which together with the DT Pro Lock Squorx nipples ensure that every watt arrives at the rim.
Due to the system-related higher total weight also the rims of e-bikes have to be able to take much more away than on conventional MTBs. At first glance, the hybrid rims do not differ from the standard DT-Swiss Enduro rims. So they have the same Tubelessready rim profile with load optimized cross sections. In the case of the hybrid rims, however, material thickness and strength were increased at the critical points in order to permanently withstand the higher loads.
