DT SWISS Wheelset 27,5 "| 650B HX 1501 Spline Boost Hybrid | E-Bike
With its hybrid wheel sets, DT-Swiss is launching its first series of impellers, specially developed for use with eMTBs. Not only the system weight at eMTBs is higher and leads to higher loads for the wheels, also many trails and rough passages can be driven at significantly higher speeds. In addition to this, the drive system generates higher driving torques which are required to be placed on the ground and require stiffer wheels. The engineers at DT-Swiss have taken this requirement into account and optimized all components of their proven Spline wheel sets for use with eMTBs.
The HX 1501 Spline One wheel set is the lightest wheel set with aluminum rims under the DT SwissHybrid wheel sets. In terms of durability and stiffness, however, no compromises were made. The low weight was achieved by the use of high-quality Alumium alloys. With a 30- or 35-millimeter gap, the rim plus tires give up to 3.5 inches, even at low air pressures, a good support. With a clearance of up to 150 kilos of system weight (driver, clothing, wheel), the HX 1501 wheel set also provides enough reserves for rough riders on rough trails.
The hybrid hubs have oversized housings, heavy duty axles and extra reinforced spoke mounts. Over-dimensioned bearings and a free-floating steel body ensure high robustness and durability. The tried and tested DT-Swiss toothed disc clutch is also made of hardened steel for the hybrid hubs and has been extended to 24 teeth for a more direct response. These adjustments allow the larger torques of e-bike drives to be absorbed by the hubs. The hybrid hubs have a very low weight compared to a standard MTB hub. The spline hub flanges for Straigthpull spokes make the hubs also visually an eyecatcher.
In order to transfer the higher drive forces to the rims, DT-Swiss developed special oversized hybrid spokes. They consist of the same high-performance steel alloy as all the tried and tested DT Swiss spokes. However, the Straightpull hybrid spokes are equipped with reinforced and oversized fuel heads, which together with the DT Pro Lock Squorx nipples ensure that every watt on the rim arrives.
Due to the system's increased overall weight, the rims of e-bikes must be able to push away more than on conventional MTBs. At first glance, the hybrid rims differ from the standard DT Swiss enduro rims. So they have the same Tubelessready rim profile with load-optimized cross-sections. However, in the case of the hybrid rims, material strength and strength were increased at the critical points in order to maintain the higher loads permanently.
