The Swiss from DT Swiss are known for their first-class hubs and wheel components. In order to achieve the very highest level in the area of aerodynamics as well, the compatriots from Swiss-Side were brought on board for the development of the PRC 1400 wheelset. With over 50 years of experience in Formula 1, Swiss Side has also been producing aerodynamically extremely sophisticated wheels with the latest production techniques for several years. In addition to these qualities, it was also the geographical proximity to DT-Swiss that made it possible to develop a top-class wheelset together.
In terms of air resistance, the PRC 1400 with its 35 millimeter high rim was able to convince in the wind tunnel and delivered extremely low air resistance on par with the most aerodynamic wheel on the market with the same profile height. But not only the aerodynamics were in the foreground during the development. With the focus on long tours or long races, the wheels should be easy to control and comfortable under all conditions. DT Swiss calls this concept AERO+, with which the perfect symbiosis of air resistance, handling and efficiency should be found.
The highest air resistance in the system of rider and bike is provided by the rider himself at 75%. It is therefore crucial that the rider has confidence and control of his bike under all conditions in order to be able to ride in an aerodynamically efficient position. From this point of view, too, the PRC 1400 was able to achieve top values in the wind tunnel. In all wind conditions, only very small forces act on the steering and the driver hardly has to countersteer in strong crosswinds.
Under efficiency, the Swiss summarize the points of comfort grip and rolling resistance. All 3 points could be brought to a very high level by one parameter of the rims: the large inner rim width of 18 millimeters. This means that 25 and 28 millimeter wide tires not only sit more aerodynamically on the rim, they also have less rolling resistance than on a narrower rim due to the large rim width. Better tire shaping and more stability with lower air pressure also increase comfort and cornering grip. The rims are tubeless-ready for use with tubeless tires and are supplied with accessories for conversion.
The hubs are based on the proven DT Swiss 240S hubs. These impress with their excellent seal and the distinctive sound of the toothed disc freewheel. Their spline flange geometry ensures balanced wheels with high rigidity. The PRC 1400 is laced with 24 straight pull bladed spokes. So that the state-of-the-art wheelset can also be equipped with the most modern brake technology, the hubs have Centerlock brake disc mounts for road disc brakes.
