DT SWISS front wheel 29 "EXC 1501 Spline One 30 mm | 15x110 mm BOOST thru axle | Center Lock
DT Swiss has given its popular 1501 Spline wheel series a "Carbonized" treatment for the 2021 model year. What is meant is the use of lighter and stiffer carbon rims compared to the built-in aluminum rims of the previous versions. But the wheels were not only optimized on the rims. The current 240 EXP hubs rotate in the center of the wheels, which, in addition to reducing weight, transmit the drive forces even more directly and reliably. Thanks to the total number of optimizations, the Carbonized versions save up to 180 grams of weight per wheelset compared to the previous version.
Requirement-specific carbon rims
The use of carbon enables the properties and wall thicknesses of the rims to be specifically adapted to their intended use . Not only cross country drivers benefit from the lower moment of inertia and better acceleration due to the lighter rims. The more agile and precise handling is also noticeable in the all-mountain and enduro area. With their large inner width of 30 millimeters, the rims offer modern enduro tires very good support at low air pressures. In addition, the driver benefits from lower rolling resistance due to the wider shape of the tire and the possibility of lowering the air pressure even further in rough terrain without the risk of the tire jumping off.
DT Swiss 240 EXP hubs
Lighter, stiffer, more precise and easier to maintain - these are the strengths of the newly launched DT Swiss 240 hubs. These properties were achieved through the Ratchet EXP technology. With this, not only do the hubs get by with fewer components and the associated lower weight and less wear, it also allows the bearing to be positioned significantly further out on the drive side. The greater distance between the bearings results in a higher stiffness of the hub, a lower bearing load and thus a higher durability. The stiffness of the hub body serves to distribute the load more evenly on the spokes. Driving and braking forces are transmitted even better from both spoke flanges to all of the spokes.
Competition Race Straightpull spokes
The high rigidity of the carbon rims allows the 1501 wheels to be built with the weight-optimized Competition Race spokes without negatively affecting longevity. The low weight of the spokes is achieved by a center section that is tapered to 1.6 millimeters. The straight pull lacing also ensures that the wheels can withstand higher loads by eliminating the sensitive spoke arches.
PHR nipple system
Stands for Pro Head Reinforcement System, in which the nipple and rim form a kind of ball joint. This ensures a more flat contact surface between the nipple and the rim, which makes it easier for the nipple to align itself. This means that the spokes are always at the right angle to the rim and the forces can be better transferred. The DT Squorx nipple have on the underside a Torx mount , which ensures a better tool holder for a more precise centering. On the outside, the Squorx nipples can still be tightened with a conventional standard nipple wrench.
