The Americans are breaking new ground in the manufacture of the built-in carbon rims. While the carbon fabric is bonded with epoxy resin in classic carbon rims, the Chris King rims use FusionFiber technology, in which the fabric is bonded with a nylon binder. This binder is less brittle and significantly improves shock resistance and vibration dampening. On the bike, this means a more comfortable ride, less fatigue on long tours and higher resistance of the rims under extreme loads. Compromises in terms of directional stability and smooth running at high speeds do not have to be made. Another big advantage of the revolutionary FusionFiber manufacturing process is the much shorter curing process of the rims, which takes less than a minute, and the relatively easy and clean recyclability of the rims. In addition, no harmful carbon dust is produced during production.
With an inner width of 23 millimeters and a profile height of only 24 millimeters, the rims are extremely versatile and you can mount both 28 millimeter wide road bike slicks and 45 millimeter wide gravel tires.
When it comes to the hubs, Chris King naturally relies on their high-quality R45 Center Lock hubs, which impress with their unmistakable freewheel sound. It is generated by the 45 locking points of the stainless steel toothed disc. Thanks to its 3-part RingDrive system, every step is immediately converted into propulsion without much idle travel. The heart of the hubs are the ball bearings. These are also developed and produced directly by Chris King. This means that they can be fully adapted to the specific loads and forces. Due to the multiple seal, the ingress of water or dirt is almost impossible. Each bearing is checked by hand for any quality defects before installation and sorted out if necessary. Adjusting the bearing clearance is very simple and can also be carried out when installed. With the help of the Chris King hub tool set, which can be purchased as an option, replacing the bearings and maintaining the hub is child's play.
